About Big Boned Women
Hello Again
Big Boned Women are seeking a way to express their inner thoughts and feelings to deal with the negative connotations often associated with the plus size woman industry. Several attempts have been made at the creation of media to expand the plus size market, but major fashion companies such as Versace, Valentino, Anne Klein and others ceased creations of plus size fashions which left Lane Bryant the undisputed fashion leader since the 1940’s. Due to the meltdown of the plus size fashion world, their have been limited exposure or media to encourage the growth of the industry. In 2002, Mode created and sold an impressive 600,000 magazine issues before their collapse due to the exit of major fashion vendors. Although other magazines and media content have had moderate success, the industry still needs a leader to sculpt a profitable market.
More than 40% of women in this country wear a size 12 or larger which amounts to over 65 million American women. Although nearly half of the US female population consist of plus size women, they represent only 25% of the US clothing purchases reported by online retail store Beauty Plus Power. Consumers have spent 24 billion dollars on full figured women clothing. Hoovers expects this market to grow at an annual compounded rate of 5.9% over the next 6 years. The plus size woman industry has become more attractive with the increased exposure from media icons. Tyra Banks, fashion media icon, tried to increase consumer awareness with the reality TV show America’s Next Top Model. Oscar winner Queen Latifah became the spokeswoman for the online women’s community “Project Curvation”, sponsored by major retailers like Wal-Mart, to build and increase confidence amongst plus size women. In 2003, Charming Shoppes, owner of Lane Bryant clothing, introduced Figure magazine to capture more plus size woman consumers. The business entity that creates and sustains the bridge between the consumer and the plus size woman industry will create a billion dollar niche market.
Zellyo Productions has the capability to position itself as the most experienced promoter of the plus sized woman’s fashion industry in United States. Zellyo Production has successfully taken their vision and launched a viable company that spotlights and uplifts the plus size women industry through print and media. The company has expanded to provide services, products, and resources to compliment our vast and diversified customer base. Initially, the end consumer consisted of plus sized African American women and has expanded into other ethnic groups and nationalities over the past three years. Since the inception of Zellyo Productions in 2005, the company has leveraged their experience of the industry to ensure the company has been productive from the beginning. CEO of Zellyo Productions, Yolanda Zellous, created an effective supply chain from her career as an actor. The owner exploited the underserved plus sized woman’s market to create the profitable company. The company has currently produced projects such as the “Spirited Actors Workshop” and the soon to be released documentary “Big Boned Woman.” Future endeavors include calendars, books, and plays.
